Beree Badalla Boardwalk – keep your dog on the leash

Beree Badalla Boardwalk Palm Beach

Beree Badalla Boardwalk is a reserve not far from Palm Beach Parklands, where there are a number of designated areas for exercising your dog on and off leash.

Boardwalk Palm Beach Gold Coast

Beree Badalla a unique place

This is a unique area with prolific birdlife and crustaceans where people come to walk their dogs and enjoy that environment on an unobtrusive boardwalk amongst the mangroves, listening and watching birdlife, and waiting for that crab to emerge from the nutrient rich mud.
Taking the little ones to observe crabs in the mud of the mangroves is a wonderful pastime for many parents and grandparents to teach them about the environment.

Keep your dog on a leash in this reserve…

On Beree Badalla Boardwalk it is important to keep your dog on a leash, don’t let your dog run through the mangroves at low tide, this isn’t an off leash designated area.

Check this link for dog walking areas.
Lately every time I walk through this area there is someone letting their dog off the leash or putting one back on. In some instances they let them off in the middle of the boardwalk for a quick run into the water. This is not the place for that.

I would like to say this was an isolated incident…

Low tide at Beree Badalla Boardwalk

This might not sound like a big deal however dogs off leash running and jumping in the water at low tide while others are soaking up the atmosphere is not very considerate, and can spoil their overall enjoyment of this reserve.

This is a fragile environment a nursery if you will, keep your dog restrained; there are many sites in this locality for dogs to run free in the water, but not here.

Many water birds nest in this area and dogs running through the mangroves will disturb the balance.

Current legislation in Queensland protects all marine plants including mangroves from any damage or disturbance.

Pet Friendly Areas

I love dogs and enjoy watching them play on the beach and in the water, the Gold Coast is pet friendly with many dog walking and off leash areas check the Gold Coast City Council link for an update on the dog friendly area and off leash areas on the Gold Coast. Responsible Pet Owners

Most dog owners are responsible and respect this environment it’s only a few that abuse it. However unfortunately for them… it is these few which will impact on the majority.
So all you dog owners who walk Beree Badalla Boardwalk, if you see another dog owner letting their dog off to run the boardwalk or run through the mangroves remind them that this is not the off
leash area and let them know that they could attract a $1,500 fine.

It’s got more impact from a dog owner than from a ‘dog-less’ person ….
