Take a walk on the wild side visit Burleigh Headland

Burleigh Headland National Park is right in the centre of the Gold Coast 26.7 ha of beautiful rainforest and stunning views; it still amazes me how lovely this National Park is, every time I take one of the walking tracks and depending on the time of year the Rainforest circuit can look quite different.

Burleigh Headland was set aside as a Reserve for Public Purposes in 1886, and according to the government website was earmarked for a proposed subdivision for growing bananas, attempts were made during these dates to change its use 1916, 1929 and 1941, fortunately some individuals had extreme foresight and the headland became a National Park in 1947.

What a tragedy it would have been if this had occurred, so when you are soaking up this unique location think about what might have happened.

There are two walking tracks;

  • Oceanview walk 1.2 km one way (Class 3 walk)
  • Rainforest circuit 2.3 km return (Class 3 walk)
  • What does a class 3 walk mean?

    According to Australian standards it means the following

  • Gently sloping, well-defined track with slight inclines or few steps
  • Caution needed on loose gravel surfaces and exposed natural lookouts
  • Reasonable level of fitness and ankle-supporting footwear required
